  Work Experience 1980 to Sept. 1983:
Career started as a Mechanical Engineer in M/s Rohtas Industries, a paper manufacturing industry in Dalmia Nagar (Bihar), looking after the work of manufacturing of varieties of Paper.
Sept. 1983 till date:
Worked in different capacities under Government of India and also in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Since October, 2008, promoted to the post of Chief Engineer (Mechanical). Later, promoted to the post of Additional Director General under the same Ministry from 05.12.2012.
From June, 2012 to January, 2013, held the post of Director, Indian Academy of Highways Engineers, Government of India, Noida, on additional charge, a prestigious institution, which cater to the training of Highway Engineers.
From 1st August, 2014, working as Director General (Road Development) in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Also presently holding the post of Honarary Treasurer of the Indian Roads Congress and Convenor of G-4, Mechanisation Committee, IRC.

  Mr. Knut Oberhagemann has spent more than 20 years on flooding and riverbank instability issues related to the Brahmaputra System in India and Bangladesh. His work experience goes back to the 1990s and comprises river training and flood studies, implementation supervision, and providing expertise. A key element of his work was the contribution to the development of geotextile bag revetments to provide low-cost, sustainable riverbank protection to mostly agricultural land. The work is now systematically implemented in Bangladesh and part of a Guideline for Riverbank Protection, while more than 10km have been also built in Assam, India. The latest activities related to the training of the Brahmaputra with the purpose of reclaiming floodplain land, lost during the widening period resulting from the Great Assam Earthquake in 1950.

Shahrokh Bagli

  Shahrokh P. Bagli is the Chief Technology Officer of Strata Geosystems (India) Pvt. Ltd. since February 2012. Mr. Bagli is currently associated at a corporate level with innovative development, testing and applications of geosynthetic reinforcements including various types of geogrids and geocells.

Mr. Bagli completed his B.Tech. (Hons) in Civil Engineering (1971) as well as M.Tech. (Civil) with Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering as specialisation (1973) from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He also holds a Diploma in Management Studies from Bombay University (1979).

He started his career with Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) in 1973 as Engineer Trainee. In TCE, he made a mark as head of the Geotechnical Group over the years, and besides, also has vast experience in RCC Design and Project Management. While familiar with various aspects of thermal power plant designs, he has also been associated with geotechnical aspects of port and harbour projects, marine structures, hydro-electric projects, transmission lines, roads, bridges, etc. He has vast field experience in Nepal, Bhutan, Iraq and Laos, particularly transmission lines and hydro-electric projects.

Mr. Bagli has immense involvement in Nuclear related structures, and was associated with the geotechnical aspects of critical structures at Narora, Kakrapar, Rajasthan, Tarapore, Kalpakam (500MWe Fast Breeder Reactor) and Kudankulam. Besides the Geotechnical Group, Mr. Bagli headed the Civil Department of the Nuclear Business Group of TCE.

Mr. Bagli was also associated with the engineering and safety aspects of landing, handling and storages of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and other low temperature gases. He did a short stint in the late 1990s till 2002 on deputation through Tata Power Company Limited with India Natural Gas Company Pvt. Ltd. (Indigas) as its Chief Technical Officer in the late 1990s till 2002. This organisation was set up as a JV between Tata Power and Totalfina Elf.

Mr. Bagli joined Shapoorji Pallonji and Co. Ltd. in 2003 as GM, and later Vice President – Business Development, heading the Business Development Group of the Company. Besides, this function, he lent value as a Geotechnical Engineer, resolving on-site problems and was also a coordinator for Projects at their critical juncture, including those with Tata Steel, the Kabul Serena Hotel Project in Kabul and the Torrent / Siemens Power Project in Surat. Mr. Bagli was also working on copper ventures in Zambia for Shapoorjis and was Director of a SPV, Sharus (Zambia) Pvt. Ltd. Shahrokh Bagli was also Director of SPCL-Petrolin JV and had spearheaded the Oil and Gas ventures, when SPCL was intending to procure an Exploration and Production company.

Later, as Advisor – Group Synergies in 2010, besides Oil and Gas, he was given the additional responsibility of coordinating activities between the several SP Group Companies.

Shahrokh Bagli was Chairman of the Mumbai Chapter of the Indian Geotechnical Society Mumbai Chapter and, as Chairman of the Organising Committee, he successfully organised two national conferences of the Indian Geotechnical Society in 2000 and 2010 in Mumbai.

He is a member of several committees of the Bureau of Indian Standards and the H4 Committee of the Indian Roads Congress.

Mr. Bagli has over 30 technical papers to his credit. He has several professional affiliations, including Fellowships of The Institution of Engineers (India), and the Indian Geotechnical Society.

  Dr. K. Rajagopal is currently a Professor and a former Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras. He holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. He has obtained M.Tech. degree in Ocean Engineering from IIT Madras and B.Tech. degree in Civil Engineering from JNTU College of Engineering, Kakinada, AP. He is a past president of the Indian Chapter of the International Geosynthetics Society. Before joining IIT Madras in 1993, he had worked in USA and Canada in various capacities. He has travelled extensively in all the six inhabited continents of the world. He is a well recognized Academic and Professional in the area of Geotechnical and Geosynthetics Engineering. He has successfully guided more than 20 research students in their degree programs. He is currently guiding another seven research scholars at IIT Madras. Based on his research work, he has published nearly 200 journal and conference papers at national and international levels. He has applied for one patent for an innovative system developed at IIT Madras. He is an Editorial Board member of several national and international technical journals in his area of research. He has been a council member of International Geosynthetics Society, USA for the past four years. He is a member of different technical committees formed by Indian Roads Congress, National Institute of Ocean Technology and several other universities. He has won several awards for the best papers published in his area of research. He has been awarded by the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) in recognition of his contributions in geosynthetics area in India. An Achievement award has been presented to him by the International Geosynthetics Society, USA for his contributions in the area of geosynthetics. He has provided consultancy services to several Public and Private sector organizations. He has also taken up several research projects in different areas of geotechnical engineering supported by both government agencies and private industry.

V Sundar

Ocean Department IIT Madras   Prof. Vallam Sundar obtained his bachelor degree in Civil engineering from University of Madras, India in 1975. After obtaining M.Tech and Ph.D he had joined IIT Madras as a faculty in 1981 and presently he is a professor in the department of Ocean Engineering since 1996. Prof. Sundar has surpervised 20 Ph.D, 14 M.S and 12 M.Tech theses. He has about 450 publications in Conferences and journals to his credit.

A few of his publications have won the best paper award in International conferences. He has participated in about 100 conferences worldwide and has chaired a number technical sessions and has served as a member of the International Scientific committee for a number of International conferences. He himself has organized 4 such major conferences. He has organized three International workshops on "Geo-synthetics and modern materials in Coastal protection and related applications", 2 in IIT Madras in 2010 and 2013 and the third was in Mexico in 2015.

He is member of the editorial board for about 10 Intl journals and has reviewed a number technical papers submitted to peer reviewed journals. He has been rated as an excellent teacher in IIT Madras.

He was invited by different German agencies a visiting Scientist, Visiting Professor on a continuous basis from 1992 till 2006, wherein recognizing his contributions to teaching and research in Coastal Engineering, he was awarded the prestigious honorary doctorate award by University of Wuppertal, Germany. Apart from this, he has bagged about 10 awards.

Recognizing his contributions to the field of Coastal Engineering, The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research, IAHR, elected him as Chairman of its Asia Pacific division in 2006. He has long term collaborations in a number of Universities in Europe, in particular, Germany and Norway.

He has been involved in offering solutions to a variety of coastal/Ocean engineering related problems. He has been instrumental also in the development of fishing harbours along Indian coast apart from offering solutions to coastal erosion problems. His significant contribution is his solution to the coastal erosion problem along the North of Chennai harbor that had been experiencing continuous erosion in spite of several other solutions that were offered over the last five decades. The solution of groin field adopted, not only solved the problem but has enhanced the formation of beach. This remains as a standing contribution of Prof. Sundar. Similarly the coastal protection measures suggested by him that has been implemented along the west coast of TamilNadu had proved to be excellent buffers in reducing the impact of tsunami 2004. His role during the post tsunami is significant. He had delivered lectures all over to the media/ educational institutions/ and several other agencies. His reports on the master plan for the two maritime states, TamilNadu and Kerala in connection withTsunami mitigation measures remain as the basic document for their planning and implementations.

He has over 28 years of experience in R&D activities related to geotechnical engineering aspects of highway projects, use of Industrial waste and marginal materials, ground improvement, land slide studies, soil stabilisation, rural roads, quality audit of highway works, concrete pavements, etc. He has received CSIR Technology Prize in 1999 and Best Paper Award in Fly ash International Congress held at Delhi in 2005 and has received commendation certificate/ awards from professional bodies like Indian Roads Congress and Indian Geotechnical Society.   He has done Graduation in Civil Engineering and Post-Graduation in Structural Engineering, both from BHU-IT, Varanasi with Hons. and joined Central Water Engineering (CWE) Gp-A Service (Central Water Commission) in April, 1981. He has worked in various capacities in CWC, Ministry of Water Resources, RD&GR, Ganga Flood Control Commission (GFCC) and Brahmaputra Board since then. Prior to the assignments of Commissioner (CADWM) and Commissioner (Pen. Riv.) in the Ministry during 2008-14, he worked as Senior Joint Commissioner (CAD) during 1997-2002. He also worked in Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of United Nations as an Irrigation Expert for implementation of special programme on food security (SPFS) in Lesotho, Africa. He has authored/coauthored about 20 technical articles in different national & international seminars/conferences, delivered various lectures in different training/workshops, edited different journals and has written a book (manuscript), “Pubottaranjali”, which is a collection of technical articles, mostly on North-Eastern part of the country in Hindi. He has taken over as Member (D&R) in CWC on 9th November, 2015 with additional charge of Chairman, Ganga Flood Control Commission (GFCC), Patna and Chairman, Central Water Commission.

  Mr. Anand Kumar is a career civil servant. He joined Indian Administrative Service in the year 1984 and was allotted to Kerala State. He holds M. Phil degree with distinction from University of Delhi and MBA degree with honours from University of Queensland, Australia. During his career he has held many important positions in Tourism, Infrastructure, Industry, Biotechnology, Finance, Revenue, Elections and Governance sectors under the State and Federal Governments. During initial stages of his career, he served as District Collector and Magistrate of Idukki and Calicut Districts in Kerala. He was assigned challenging duty of managing the relief camps on Iraq - Amman border and repatriation of Indians during Kuwait - Iraq war of 1990. While in Kerala Tourism, he was instrumental in setting up a new Institute in Tourism and Travel Management, District Tourism Promotion Councils and also giving a new direction to branding, promotion and marketing of Kerala Tourism. He was part of the team which launched ‘God’s Own Country’ Campaign and planned introduction of House Boats in Kerala. He served as Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India and conducted landmark Bihar Legislative Assembly elections in 2005. He was appointed as Chief Technical Adviser for Nigerian General Elections 2007 by UNDP. He served UNDP, Nigeria for the purpose from 2006 to 2008. He has since acted as a resource person for UNDP on Elections and Governance having done assignments in Cambodia, Lebanon and Belgium. He designed international campaign ‘Find What You Seek’ that received First Golden Gate Award in Berlin and domestic campaign ‘Go Beyond’ while working as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. In Infrastructure sector, Mr. Kumar scripted first Port Privatisation Policy for the country. Currently, he is serving as Managing Director of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) responsible for setting up this new organisation. In spare time, Mr. Kumar writes and paints.

Pietro Rimoldi
Geosynthetics Specialist Maccaferri Group   Mr Pietro Rimoldi got a degree in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Milan, Italy, in 1984. In 1986 he started to work in the Geosynthetics sector; since then he has been involved in the development of new products and in many field and laboratory test projects related to geosynthetics and their applications. He has designed several important projects around the world, for soil reinforcement and stabilization, landfills, hydraulic applications and erosion control. He has contributed to the development of new testing apparatus and new testing procedures. He is the author of more than 200 national and international publications related to geosynthetics and he has written design manuals for reinforced slopes and walls, for road and railway base stabilization, for geosynthetic drainage systems and for erosion control. He is Certified Professional Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Specialist (CPESC) in USA and Chartered Professional Engineer in Italy. He is an active member of IGS, ISSMGE, ASCE Geo-Institute, and of the technical committees CEN TC 189 on Geosynthetics, ISO TC221 on Geosynthetics in which he is Project Leader of WG6 TG4 Design for drainage, CEN TC 288 - Execution of special geotechnical works, CEN TC250 / SC7 / EG5 on design methods for Geosynthetic reinforced structures that will be part of the structural Eurocodes. He was Elected by the third time Member of the International Council of the International Geosynthetics Association - IGS in September 2014. He has been Vice-President of the Italian Chapter of IGS, member of the Council of the Italian Geotechnical Association, and member of the Board of Directors of the Geosynthetics Institute (GSI) in USA. He is presently the owner of World Tech Engineering company in Milano and Technical Development Manager of Geosynthetics for Maccaferri Group.

He has worked with start-ups and multinational corporations to deploy new technologies for global markets. He leads Coral’s Strategic Project Group and focuses on deploying innovative solutions for large organizations. Prior to joining Coral in 2008, he held several positions in semiconductor design, business development and management at Zoran, NeoMagic and LSI Logic. Miki transitioned to the venture capital industry in 2002, where he worked with early-stage companies in US, Europe and Israel.  Born in 1977, Mirko Zisa attended the Technical Institute of Technologies (with specialisation in Plastic processing technologies) in Varese, Italy. In 1997 he began his working experience in the technical/production department of BTicino, in the injection moulding sector. In 2000 he started his career as Salesman in Bandera blown film division. For 3 years, he worked as internal project manager; in cooperation with the technical office, Mirko was in charge to define the technical composition of the plants being offered and to assist the Sales Director in the sales activities. He also started looking after the Asian market as Junior Area Manager. In 2004 he returned into the injection moulding machine sector, joining ENGEL Italy and being in charge to develop the sales network and expand customers portfolio. In 2005 Bandera decided to increase the energies in its Sales Department and Mirko was asked to return. After being introduced also to the pipe extrusion and steel pipe coating technologies, Mirko is now in charge to follow the Sales of the blown film lines as Area Manager. Since 2012 Mirko is in charge for Middle East and India markets

He is well versed with various highway engineering software viz. KENPAVE, BISAR, FPAVE, and finite element programs PLAXIS and ABAQUS. His area of interest includes development of cost effective, eco-friendly materials and technologies for construction of bituminous roads. Besides that he is working on development of pavement response model using Heavy Vehicle Simulator (APTF), He is a well visited person and his research papers are widely appreciated in International Conferences held at USA, Australia and U.K
